開(kāi)創(chuàng)世界獸醫(yī)日的目的在于慶祝獸醫(yī)行業(yè)為社會(huì)所做出的貢獻(xiàn)和成就。2011年，OIE世界動(dòng)物衛(wèi)生組織將世界獸醫(yī)日的主題定為“狂犬病”。西共體聯(lián)盟（即西非國(guó)家經(jīng)濟(jì)共同體聯(lián)盟）定于2011年5月9日在尼日利亞首都阿布賈舉行世界獸醫(yī)日的慶祝活動(dòng)，此次活動(dòng)的主題是“西共體聯(lián)盟地區(qū)所面臨的狂犬病防控問(wèn)題”。西共體聯(lián)盟委員會(huì)將與尼日利亞獸醫(yī)協(xié)會(huì)合作，舉行一系列活動(dòng)，強(qiáng)調(diào)該地區(qū)防控人畜共患病的重要性。西共體成員國(guó)將參加此次活動(dòng)，共同分享在人畜共患病防控方面的經(jīng)驗(yàn)，進(jìn)而對(duì)該地區(qū)的人畜共患病防控提出可行性意見(jiàn)及建議。
World Veterinary Day in Nigeria
World Veterinary Day Celebration (VET 2011) by the ECOWAS Commission on the theme: ‘Challenges in the Control of Rabies in the ECOWAS region’, 9th May 2011, Abuja, Nigeria. In celebration of the tremendous work done and achievements recorded in the veterinary profession, the OIE dedicated this year to celebrate the profession on the theme of one of the longest known zoonosis-Rabies. The ECOWAS Commission in collaboration with the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, will celebrate the World Veterinary Day on the theme ‘Challenges in the Control of Rabies in the ECOWAS region’, to underscore the importance of this zoonosis in the region. ECOWAS Member States will participate at this workshop to share their experiences and make recommendations towards the control of this zoonosis in the region, as well as prepare for the world celebration of the veterinary profession in South Africa, later in the year.
